LOCAL METAL FABRICATOR EXPANDING WITH SUPPORT FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA

SYDNEY (NS) – March 18, 2013 – East Coast Metal Fabrication is undertaking a major capital upgrade with a view to improving efficiency and expanding its production with a business loan from the Government of Canada. The investment was announced today by the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue and Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

Small and medium sized enterprises are the backbone of our economy,” said Minister Shea. “East Coast Metal Fabrication Inc. is taking advantage of Cape Breton’s skilled labour force and strategic location to build its business. Our investment in the company will bring significant economic benefits, employment and wealth to Cape Breton.”

With a provisionally repayable loan of $600,000 from ECBC, the company is proceeding with a major capital upgrade of its fabrication operation that will fully modernize the facility and help position it to compete for impending large regional and national contracts.

East Coast Metal Fabrication is a custom metal fabricator that specializes in building aluminum and stainless steel modular packages for industrial companies. The company was established in 2012, and is owned by four Cape Breton entrepreneurs.

The fabrication facility and its skilled employees have a successful history of successfully servicing the custom fabrication needs of local industrial operations; as well as, the oil, gas, mining and shipbuilding sectors throughout Canada.

“We have some of the most skilled workers in Nova Scotia and with this assistance from ECBC, we’ll be able to acquire modern and technologically advanced equipment we need to competitively bring more work to Nova Scotia. We are confident that our business plan will effectively allow us to maintain and grow well-paying skilled jobs here in Cape Breton,” said Joe Hines, COO of East Coast Metal Fabrication Inc.

The Government of Canada remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation is a federal Crown corporation offering programs in support of commercial development, community development, environmental stewardship and real property development on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
